Professor Emerita Beryl Rawson
We are saddened to learn of the death of Professor Emerita Beryl Rawson, who was a warm supporter of SSCIP and served on the Journal's editorial committee. Janette McWilliam writes the following:
Professor Emerita Beryl Rawson died on October 22nd 2010 after a brief but painful battle with secondary cancer which spread rapidly throughout her lungs. Professor Rawson had been in remission from breast cancer for several years, so the cancer’s aggressive return was unexpected. A memorial celebration in honour of her life and achievements was held at the Australian National University on December 6th 2010. Professor Rawson was one of the pioneers in the field of Roman Family Studies, and her publications included Children and Childhood in Roman Italy (OUP 2005). She completed in the weeks before her death her editorial duties for A Companion to Families in the Greek and Roman World (Blackwells, forthcoming 2011). Professor Rawson was a colleague and friend to many scholars around the world and she will be sadly missed.
